Keep At It Until You Are Satisfied

On June 15th I drew this picture in my Bible:

UGH!! I was so unhappy with it but I didn't know how to make it better.  One of the problems was that I had to put it on the opposite page from the scripture (the margin next to it was full already) and I didn't know how to relate it... I just drew it and left it until today.  Tonight I fixed it ... It isn't perfect but nothing I do, good enough for peace of mind.

I LOVE the scripture that it represents.... Matthew 23: 27... "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!  It really is sad, but such an awesome visual how how the Lord wants to protect us but it is totally up to us to accept that protection!"

When I first read that I didn't really get it because I don't know anything about the behavior of Momma chickens.... So I searched YouTube for an example and found several... This one is PERFECT: (worth the watch if you are interested)

I am adding the following so I can pin the explanation....

Ruth In Progress .... Stage One ... Get Something Drawn ...

I'm not finished yet but this is the beginnings of Ruth.  Pen and color to come....

When I think I know what I want to draw I head for Google to find a picture to help with how things should look.  Today I searched on "Bible people walking" and would you believe I found a picture of Naomi and family headed to Moab!  .... Without the sign ... There wasn't anything that said that's who they were but the numbers were right.  The only problem was they were walking in the wrong direction and I couldn't make my brain draw in the opposite direction so I pasted it isn't Photoshop and flipped it.   I then could have used my Osmo but I decided since I had time I would just draw everything from scratch this time.

I just love having little illustrations next to the text!  I want to have something drawn on every page.... But I would rather be raptured, if ya know what I mean 😊

Nehemiah in Progress...

I am such a visual person!!!  I am sure you have figured that out by now :-)

This past week I was drawing in Nehemiah (see below) and once again I ran across the age old question...where does this fall in the overall time line????  Because you do know that the Old Testament jumps ALL OVER THE PLACE! And it doesn't help that I tend to jump all over the place too.  Case in point... I just decided to start working in good reason, none.  Anyway,  the Israelites were constantly messing up and every time the Lord would let their enemies concur them, and I wanted to see which time this was.  I have a need to know when things are happening, and even though there are lots of timelines out there,  I learn better if I do things myself.  Sooooo, I stopped everything and started building this chart:

When things are listed like this you can quickly see that the same things repeat themselves all over the Old Testament because of the way it is set up... Pentateuch, History, Wisdom and Poetry, Major Prophets and Minor Prophets.

OH!  I should say that I didn't come up with all the details on my own, that would have taken me F-O-R-E-V-E-R!  A few months ago a good friend of mine gave me the BEST ever study Bible!  It is called "The Wayfinding Bible".  I LOVE IT because it is full of pictures, maps, timelines and all kinds of quick facts.  I think the big sell is that is also includes three different reading paths that you can choose from..

Their words:
"FLYOVER"- In 54 readings you'll gain a chronological overview of the events of the Bible

"DIRECT" - In 215 readings you gain a full perspective of the entire Bible and how it fits together, in less than a year.

"SCENIC"- In 386 readings you'll discover the depth and richness of God's Word as you wind your way through well-known and not so well know passages.

I guess all that is nice but holds little interest for me... its all the extras that I love so much...

Here is an example of the page before every book of the Bible... see the timeline?  That's what I entered into a spreadsheet to get the above chart ...Love!

And here is another page from the Wayfinding Bible and how I used the idea in my Journaling Bible:

And, here is where I am so far with Nehemiah... some of these are finished, some not.... and I want to add more... cause ya know I love illustrating what I read :-)

OH!  and I ordered new colored pencils (used in the above) because someone on YouTube recommended them, because the are made to erase...  Prismacolor Col-Erase

Write the Vision Down...

Last week a friend asked me if I had done anything with Revelation yet.... NOPE! I am totally intimidated by that book!  Don't even like to read it...but, I love do a challenge so I started.

I started in a journal first because I wasn't sure how exactly I wanted to handle it...very, loosie goosie so far.   I see lots of opportunity for stars, trumpets, candelabras and such!

But, this morning I decided to just "do something" in my Bible....

Yes, I did start with my Osmo, of course, but I didn't get far with that as you can see here:

That's it...I had to go on my own from there....

Hummmm, no where near the original "John the Revelator" .... It is a BEAUTIFUL painting!  (I asked the Lord this morning if I could be more of an artist when we come back for the thousand years.) Anyway, if you Google it it should show up under images, you can even buy a print starting at $100.

But, my pitiful version of it works for my purposes...for me, in my Bible.... the idea is there anyway.

Beware of False Prophets .... and More

I don't always post everything I draw in my Bible because I am usually in the middle of studying and I forget about it later...and too, I never feel finished with them, I want to do more...eventually.

Anyway, here are a few I have done lately:

Matthew 7:15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

Matthew 28:6  He is not here: he has risen:

Matthew 23:37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

Unfortunately I had to draw this one on the opposite page because the margin right next to the actual scripture was already all used up :-(  I hate that... that's why I try not to use the whole margin for just one thought.  I try to keep them contained to the area of the scripture I want to represent.

Proverbs 30:24-25
"Four things on earth are small,
yet they are extremely wise:
Ants are creatures of little strength,
yet they store up their food in the summer;

The first one was not an original idea, I just saw it on Pinterest and thought it was clever... I don't know the original artist, sorry... it wasn't from another Bible Journaler though.  The rest I just googled to find pictures that would fit the scripture.   And yes, I did indeed use my Osmo for every one of these.  I LOVE THAT THING!  It isn't great for small pictures like these ended up being, it really is better the larger you can draw, like onto a regular sheet of paper.  But, it is really great for getting the outside lines so everything is proportionate.  Of course,  I still need to add the inside lines and the color so it doesn't "do everything for you".  For me, coloring is always the hardest part of anything I draw.

NEW FONT!!! Sketchnoting Dingbats

I have a new font!  About time, right?!

This time it is all dingbats that are commonly used when sketchnoting in meetings, but i love to make lists with different bullets so these all make me very happy!  There are SEVENTY TWO different dingbats!  The beauty of having them in font form is that they can be easily resized and printed out to make a blank lists, or even printed onto label paper to make stickers ready for use anywhere.   If you have a Cricut or Silhouette it would be easy to cut the labels out ... that's what I plan to do as soon as I get done here.  I LOVE STICKERS!

OU!  Just had a thought, I need a dingbat font for calendars (I LOVE stickers for calendars!)

But first I'm going to make a font for Bible labels!

This font is ready for purchase HERE:  Buy now
